Key global trends in inflation rates include relatively high inflation in Middle Eastern nations; North Korea, where rates have shifted from 70% previously to over 50% currently; and African countries, where rates range from 5% to over 10%. Turkey is around 30%, Iran is around 88%, and—as likely mentioned previously—Venezuela tops the list with hyperinflation at 544%. Conversely, Palestine is a country experiencing deflation; its representative products include olive oil and embroidered clothing.
So, what exactly is inflation?
It’s a term I first encountered in an inexpensive business paperback back when I was twenty.
Essentially, it refers to a rise in prices—specifically, the cost of the products and services people buy goes up, making life harder for the population of the affected country. This concept is linked to a decline in the value of money; in foreign exchange (FX) markets, the currency of a country experiencing inflation tends to depreciate.
Generally, countries that are at war with or have hostile relations with the US—such as North Korea, Iran, or nations in the Middle East—tend to suffer from economic hardship, inflation, and high unemployment. Similarly, countries destabilized by war or civil conflict—like Ukraine, which is currently at war and has an inflation rate of around 10%—face economic instability. Given the extensive media coverage regarding US conflicts in the Middle East, it seems that war-related issues have a significant impact on these economies.
When countries experience inflation and economic hardship, and their currencies lose value, people often turn to more stable currencies like the US dollar. There is also a growing trend toward the adoption of cryptocurrencies (particularly stablecoins) in such situations.
However, looking at the news, economies within the "Kanji-sphere" (East Asian cultural zone)—such as Japan (approx. 1.7% inflation) and mainland China (approx. 1%)—appear relatively stable. While China is clearly a major economic rival to the US, its inflation rate remains stable; however, it does face issues like somewhat high unemployment. Thus, the nature of its relationship with the US—whether there is any friendly intent—may be a crucial factor. Furthermore, as mentioned earlier, there is a tendency for economies to collapse when the foundations of national security and stability are shattered by domestic or international conflicts.
I see—I think I’ve got the general idea now.
There is a clear correlation between the economy and various factors of stability,
and it seems the US remains a critically important benchmark in this regard.
